Just off the shores of Lake Ontario and nestled near the Niagara River is the charming old town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. With its 19th-century-old buildings, quaint shops and laid-back atmosphere, it’s no wonder this elegant and pleasant town is a hit tourist destination.
While you’re here, drive a few minutes down the road and you’ll find the Riverbend Inn, a beautiful Gregorian mansion surrounded by a 17 acre vineyard that acts as a gorgeous venue and hotel with it’s own beautiful restaurant serving brunch, lunch and dinner. There’s no denying that this restaurant isn’t your average lunch spot. It may be a bit more of hit to your wallet, but if it’s a special occasion and you’re looking for a place that serves comforting food with pretty decor fit for your Instagram feed, then the Riverbend Inn has it all.
What We Ordered
Lobster Macaroni and Cheese
If your fancy meal doesn’t include lobster, than is it really a fancy meal? This Lobster Mac and Cheese made with with handmade pasta, fresh Pacific coast lobster, Niagara cheese sauce and crunchy panko topping was a deliciously creamy dish that was not too heavy and had a delightful fresh flavour. It’s definitely a dish worth a try and you will surely feel full and satisfied after indulging in this cheesy goodness.
Panko-Crusted Perch with Frites
Crunchy and crispy and not too greasy, this Panko-Crusted Fried Perch was not the typical messy fish and chips you’re used to, but it was still the real deal. The fish was fresh and the crust was perfectly seasoned. The coleslaw was delicately dressed with a creamy sauce and red cabbage that added bite and of course the tartar sauce acted as an excellent zesty pairing. The downside, the frites (or fries, or chips, whatever you want to call them) were lacking and fell short of seasoning, crispness and fresh homemade flavour.
Overall, Riverbend Inn is worth it #ForTheGram and for your desire to act bougie. Is it worth it for the food? Maybe. But take our opinions with a grain of salt, if you’re willing to go for their dinner, you might just get more bang for your buck.
